Participatory Work

Primary Text

Participants are asked to tell a story by selecting some of the hundreds of symbolic crayon drawings printed onto small canvas squares and weave them along a line in one of the three warps, followed by a black square to mark the end.

The warps are filled and-re-filled with stories told not with writing, but with our earliest symbols for things.

Identity Tapestry

(3 public iterations to date)

Participants select a unique color of yarn to connect to those statements that define who they are. Each person leaves a trail representing their identity, and as more people add to it, it becomes a tapestry of identities.

Scales

was a participatory installation which took place over the course of a weekend at the TI Music Festival, 2009. "Scales" refers to many things- the shedding of skins, layers of identity, both real and affected, scales with which we measure our experiences and the things around us- how we weigh and categorize. Most importantly, it is about the variable Human scale.

Dream Blanket

Participants weave their dreams into a single piece of cloth.
